About Lo de Marcos

Lo de Marcos is a small seaside village on the Pacific Coast of Nayarit, Mexico, approximately 45 minutes from the Puerto Vallarta airport. The area is known for unspoiled beaches along a jungle-covered coastline, with dramatic, rocky headlands projecting into the sea. Lo de Marcos remains an authentic Mexican beach town despite the growing popularity of nearby San Pancho and Sayulita as tourist towns. It is both quiet and vibrant, with a welcoming and laid-back vibe perfect for a relaxing beach getaway.

Approximately 2.5 sq km (1 square mile) and a year-round population of 2,000 that balloons to 3,000 during the winter “high season,” Lo de Marcos is entirely walkable, but golf carts, small motorcycles, and bicycles are also popular for getting around on the mostly dirt roads. The main, cobbled street is lined with restaurants and stores, and locals also sell fruit, tacos, candy, and other treats from carts throughout town, especially along routes to the beach. A colorful plaza offers a shady place to sit and relax and features an open-air market on Saturdays during high season.

The beach is a little more than a mile of golden sand and cool blue waves, with a handful of restaurants serving freshly caught fish and other seafood under traditionally thatched palapas. Surfing, boogie boarding, paddleboarding, kayaking, and fishing are all popular activities, as is swimming at the south end of the beach. A walk to the north end takes you past the estuary and lagoon, which house a variety of birds and wildlife. Colorful sunsets over the water can be enjoyed from anywhere along the shore.
